The new drop-off location is the 14th collection site in the program and the first public-private partnership \u2013 other drop-off sites are public, such as libraries and parks \u2013 adding to the neighborhood\u2019s growing list of nature-focused amenities and initiatives. This new collection site will be open and operational starting April 1 for program subscribers to drop off their food scraps.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPartnering with the city has given our residents a chance to create a positive impact on our environment, \u201d said Seth Carpenter, Vice President of Development for <\/span>Republic Property Group<\/span>. \u201cEach decision made for the community comes from our goal of blending high tech solutions with a dedication to preserving the land and space for future generations,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The partnership with the City of Fort Worth will give residents the opportunity to turn food waste into reusable resources for processing into compost, a rich soil nutrient. The city has joined <\/span>Cowboy Compost<\/span><\/a> to equip program subscribers with a starter kit (including a kitchen countertop pail, a five-gallon transfer bucket, a refrigerator magnet, and educational resources) for a one-time fee of $20 that benefits <\/span>Keep Fort Worth Beautiful<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”\u201cOur group talked with the City of Fort Worth about bringing the composting program to life here and we\u2019re so excited to kick it off and make a difference in the community.\u201d” use_theme_fonts=”yes”]

Walsh was designed with nature in mind, committing to preserve one-third of the land to be permanently kept as parks and open green space<\/a>. There are more than 24 miles of trails, at least one park within 5-minute walking distance of each home, a greenhouse and community garden (reopening April 1).\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text]

<\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]Since its launch in April 2019, Fort Worth\u2019s Residential Composting Program has yielded results with more than 1,330 households subscribed, over 105 tons of food waste collected and diverted from the landfill, and a less than 1% contamination rate. The Residential Food Scraps Composting Pilot Program also brought several awards for the City of Fort Worth Material Management Team in 2020.<\/p>\n

All Fort Worth residents are welcome to sign up for the residential composting program through the city website<\/a>. After signing up, residents can pick up their starter kit and begin their at-home composting.
