Held in November, the\u00a0official\u00a0opening\u00a0festivities\u00a0were kicked off with a speech emphasizing the importance of the maker movement, after which our Makerspace manager Scott Sumner offered a unique take on a classic \u201cribbon cutting\u201d by using a plasma torch to snip a colorful red metal \u201cribbon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guests toured the space and witnessed the activation of equipment, including 3D printer demonstrations, woodshop demonstrations and a display of soft arts. While children played with Legos and created crafts in the kids\u2019 corner, more of our young attendees learned how to make clay animals from filmmaker and author Amanda Garner. Garner\u2019s book\u00a0Talent Tales<\/em> and accompanying stop motion film explore many maker themes through her character Wendell the Builder. The youngest makers engaged their imagination while exploring what it takes to make stop motion characters come to life.[\/vc_column_text]

<\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]Kids received a three-piece wooden planter kit to finish at the Walsh Greenhouse, complete an etched laser logo created by Tim Hood, our Woodshop Manager, as he displayed how our LASER machine works.<\/p>\n

In the maker courtyard, guests got cozy with fire pits, blankets, and heaters to keep them warm as they mingled to the sounds of musician Adam Case. Local food trucks offered snacks and treats, and delicious \u201cMaker\u201d craft cocktails were served from our new favorite mobile bar\u00a0Trucky<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Makerspace<\/a> is the perfect spot to get any resident (or visitor\u2019s) creative juices flowing. Residents have access to the Makerspace as a community amenity. For $50 a month, non-residents can have unlimited access to create, explore and dream.
